Luke 10:25-37
InĀ The Lord of the Rings, the hobbit, Frodo, has been wounded by an evil blade; approaching death his friends fly with him to escape their enemies; he loses consciousness; all is lost! …. After many days Frodo awakens in the sanctuary of Rivendell, lovingly tended back to health by Elrond, King of the Elves.
Something like that happens to us when we are met by Jesus Christ.
Steve Brown says that “every person on the planet is sinful, needy and worried” – the Bible agrees (Romans 3:21; Isaiah 53:6). In truth – like the man in the parable – we are beaten up, broken and left half-dead by the evil in the world and in our own hearts. Sometimes, oh, don’t we feel it; but even when all seems well with us, we’re only ever a hair’s breadth from deep loss and pain.
Yet Christ, with great compassion and strength, has stooped down to us, gathered up our sick, broken hearts and lives in His arms, carried us to a place of rest, and ministered deep healing and forgiveness to us. It’s like waking from a nightmare to breathe in the atmosphere and light of heaven!
Christ our King is the great Samaritan, who saves us, carries us, and lovingly tends us back to fullness of life.
Grace upon grace, Jonathan.
