On the road to Emmaus, two disciples walked beside Jesus Christ—the risen Son of God—who had conquered death, paid for sin, secured salvation, and now offers life, hope, and the Holy Spirit.
And they didn’t recognise Him.
Are we any different? We try to live as Christians—sometimes succeeding, often failing—yet miss the reality that the living Jesus walks with us. He holds out astonishing gifts, yet we barely grasp the Spirit’s power to transform us, fill us with joy, and sustain us. Worse still, we can slip into thinking we’re managing just fine on our own.
But when we truly see Him—Jesus, our Redeemer—we discover He doesn’t just save us; He equips us. He gives every gift His people need. These gifts aren’t merely for our benefit, though they bring deep joy. They are given for serving others—our true “spiritual worship.”
Jesus, the King of all, came not to be served, but to serve. His followers are shaped the same way. The gifts He places within us will always lead outward, toward others. Some expressions may be visible and significant; others quiet and unseen. All matter.
So, we must ask: what has He given us? And are we using it?
The good news is this—we are already enabled. God has given us His Spirit. We are not lacking.
What remains is to recognise that Jesus walks with us, to trust Him, to receive His gifts, and to step forward in faith.
And then—to serve.
