We thought we’d been through severe restrictions earlier this year with the onset of the Coronavirus, and they were, compared with what most of us have experienced within our relatively comfortable Western lives. Yet that time is beginning to look like a ‘walk in the park’ compared to the surging of the disease at the moment in the Eastern states, seeming to get closer and closer to flowing over our border! This is with whatever other particular trials we may have at this time.

“….Many rise up against me!…. tens of thousands assail me on every side.” (Ps 3:1,6)

Sometimes it can seem like there’s a flood rushing towards us that may overwhelm us!

David wrote the 3rd Psalm when his son Absalom was trying to kill him. The cause of this murderous family dysfunction was David’s own fault, and he knew his own sin very well. But, there was something else that he knew better… He declares this when he cries, “you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts my head!” (v3)

God had come to the broken, threatened David, and declared Himself to be a merciful and gracious Saviour and Redeemer to Him. Therefore, David said, “I will not fear”, because “from the Lord comes deliverance.” (vv6,7) The same God is speaking the same promises to us! David was fleeing for his life when he said this. We are not at that point yet! We can certainly be lifted up in the face of our fears, and with great hope live positively and constructively with our families, friends and neighbours.

Grace and cheers, Jonathan
