For the Christian, the secret to that is not actually “rocket science”! Jesus said, man shall live “by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Mt 4:4). By which He meant, all the words and teaching of God contained in the Bible.

The Psalm writer said that the person who meditates constantly on God’s Word, “is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither; whatever they do prospers.” (Ps 1:3) However, those who don’t shrivel up and die.

God is our Creator and Redeemer. A Part of His great grace to us is to communicate His life-saving, life-fulfilling truth to us in simple, human words. Someone said that, when we read the Bible, God is present with us by the power of the Holy Spirit, and speaks to us face-to-face. In this He penetrates His truth and grace deeply into our lives and hearts, and heals, grows and shapes our lives in the best possible way.

We can’t live well as Christians without reading the Bible on a daily basis, and thinking and praying about what it means in our lives. This doesn’t have to be long and complicated, but very simple. There are many resources available to help you to do this, in hard copy, online, and mobile phone App. Everyday with Jesus is a classic – www.waverleyabbeyresources.org, or ask me.

Discover with the Psalm writer that God’s Word is “more precious than much fine gold”, and “sweeter than the drippings of the honeycomb”!

Grace and cheers, Jonathan
