Sometimes, being a Christian can seem a little… weird.
On the Day of Pentecost, God poured out the Holy Spirit in a new and powerful way (Acts 2:1–21). Miraculous signs followed—believers spoke languages they’d never learned, so that foreign visitors could understand them. The experience was so intense that some bystanders thought they were drunk (Acts 2:13).
Peter stood up and set the record straight: they weren’t drunk—they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
Think about it. Drunk people often don’t care about their problems or what others think of them. They’re carefree, bold, and sometimes weird—but for all the wrong reasons. Christians can show a similar kind of boldness and joy, but in their case, it’s not stupidity—it’s the Holy Spirit. He makes the good news of Jesus vividly real, and gives believers a whole new, true perspective on life.
Being filled with the Holy Spirit isn’t a one-time event. It’s something we need again and again. He makes Jesus alive in us, and makes us truly alive as His followers. That doesn’t mean losing control—the Spirit is also the Spirit of self-control (Gal. 5:22–23). But it does mean letting God lead, even when His ways might seem a little strange at first.
This is the only way to receive all the best gifts our good Father wants to give—and to find the life we were always meant for.
